Depression - Exercise Plans to Improve Your Life.

Journeys was pleased to be sent this document prior to publication. It is a useful tool for those self-managing their depression, those living with people with depression, and those working with those with depression.

The book is in three sections:

  1. Understanding Depression;
  2. Helping Yourself to Health; and
  3. Exercises.

Part One gives a clear explanation of what depression looks and feels like as well as triggers and treatments.

Its simple language makes the message easy to understand, especially when your depression makes it difficult to concentrate for long. This is an ideal way of finding out about the condition.

Part Two looks at self-help strategies.

This is something that Journeys fully advocates. In this book there is a self-assessment tool which could be particularly useful for those with little knowledge of the condition.

We also endorse goal setting as a means to self-manage, particularly as this book encourages SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-framed. Goal setting using this formula aids motivation.

Part Three, the exercises themselves, is very well done and is a method of self-help that we encourage.

The exercises are the heart of the book and offer something quite unique in the self-help books that we have read.  It shows how to become more active using simple exercises which are clearly explained and have illustrations.

Not only does this section offer help to those who want to know more about this, but also offers help to those who are afraid to go to the gym, those who are too demotivated to go and those who simply can’t afford to go.

In conclusion, Journeys would encourage as many people as possible to read this book and keep it as a manual to dip into as and when necessary to keep moods balanced. After all, we each have to take care of our well-being, and this goes a long way to helping with that particular goal.

This book is priced at £6.99 and can be ordered from all good book shops and from here.
